As we’ve moved out of the Christmas holiday and are edging up towards New Years, I began thinking about what I have accomplished in 2010, and what I wanted to do different in 2011. Here are some of the things that I came up with.
In 2010, as the year continued to gain on me, I found myself doing more and more volunteer projects particularly related to church technology. These projects included social media strategies, developing a web presence, and even organizational infrastructure type implementations such as Google Apps.
I’m constantly troubled by the lack of technology used in the church. In this day and age, why are churches not leveraging these resources? I am one person, but I have a strong desire to bridge this gap in the church. I want to help churches reach those outside of the physical walls, and build relationships with those people using technology. My goal is not to get them to use technology for the sake of using technology, but to use it to ultimately further the Kingdom.
I’m a strong believer that if you have a gift, you should be using it. I’m also a drummer in a band. In 2011, we as a band hope to make an even bigger difference in the lives of smaller churches by leading them in worship with modern music, all for the price of NOTHING. God has blessed Preservation Theory, and we want to use our gifts to the best of our abilities to serve others and glorify our Lord.
Volunteering for a lot of things doesn’t mean that you neglect reading your Bible. I hope to accomplish numerous reading plans this year using YouVersion. They offer all kinds of different plans, and have mobile apps for every platform that you can think of. The web version of the app is amazing and a great study tool. I’m also involved in Bible Study Fellowship where I lead a group of guys in a discussion each week. We all work through questions individually each week, and then meet on Monday nights to discuss them as a group. Bible Study Fellowship is an amazing way to study the word with other men. You WILL learn something and in my case, A LOT.
These are just a hand full of things that I plan to do or improve in 2011. I think posting this will help to keep me accountable as we move through the new year.
Lets review.
1. Volunteer more using my technology experience to help churches reach others for the kingdom.
2. Minister to others by leading worship with Preservation Theory.
3. Increase my time in the Word.
Have you thought about what you’ve done in 2010? Now, have you thought about what you want to do in 2011?
Think about it.
